5 people making it and not giving a f*ck

“You gain strength, courage and confidence by every experience in which you really stop to look fear in the face.

You must do the thing you think you cannot do.”

Eleanor roosevelt

The internet is fast becoming a place for artists who want to make stuff but refuse to wait to be picked by the “experts“.

More on 5 of these artists below.

But first here’s your money tip of the week:

You Shouldn’t Have To Pay For Crap

Subscribe to 1 streamer a month.

Cancel the rest.

Write a list of all the shows you are desperate to watch on the other streamers as you hear about them from your friends.

These will cull themselves as time goes on.

When you get bored of the streamer you are on, cancel it and move on to the next one.

When you’re there – you won’t say “What shall we watch?” – you have your list.

We cancelled Netflix after 3 Body Problem.

Haven’t gone back for over a year now.

There are a few things that we have on our list.

Pay for one month subscription

In and out

Onto the next.

No longer than necessary.

Save your hard earned money

Refuse to pay for crap you don’t watch.

Creator vs. Actor

If you are interested in creating your own work, sick of waiting to be picked by the industry bigwigs, and you are primed to get your work directly in front of an audience – this is the only thing you should read this week:

Jon is at the forefront of the movement to unfuck our industry by skipping the 34 stages of middle management and instead going straight to the audience – finding the people who love your work, finding your True Fans and making the work you want.

Read it and tell me what you think.

The Short Answer

Thinking of making a film? Try starting with a short story:

Max goes on to help out even further:

If you have an idea for a film, try turning it into a short story first. Send it to your friends and family.

The goal is: they send it on to 10 of their friends and family, unsolicited.

If they don’t, keep writing and rewriting until they do.

Check out Max’s Substack here.

What’s on your mind?

Are you free Monday, Tuesday or Friday?

I’d love to talk to you this week – if you have anything you want to discuss:

  • Ideas you need a second ear on.
  • Someone to read a draft
  • Vent at me about the shitty industry we are in.

I’d love to talk to you.
