The playing is the point.
I often find myself so in my head about the gatekeepers, the job scarcity, self tapes, unpaid crap, commercial cattle calls, agent stuff, the egos, making a good impression, booking my next job, that I forget what it’s all about.
You step on stage, the cameras start rolling, the music begins,
You, opposite someone else, playing the same game.
A shared inside smile.
I glint in the eye.
You and me.
Us.
This is our game.
Who knows who will win.
I don’t.
Neither do the audience.
This is why we chose the hard.
This is why we endure months of unemployment.
This is why we’re not behind a desk.
You’ve chosen to play different.
And it’s the playing that’s the point.
Of course, there will be days we don’t want to tape, or turn up, or send out agent emails.
But we’ll still turn up and do those things.
Because that’s what professionals do.
But when we step into that arena
with our colleagues next us
We will remember that in spite of all
In spite of all that shit
it must be about the playing
other wise what’s the point.
it’s you and me, toe to toe, glint in eye, putting on a show.
and thats the point.
That’s the point.

Our Story
There is a rebuild occurring.
Andy Burnham is creating a 10 year plan for national renewal.
The Arts must be included in his plan.
“
80 years ago, from the rubble of the Second World War, the Labour government made arts and culture an integral part of their plan to rebuild the nation, alongside the construction of a million new homes and the creation of the National Health Service. They established the Arts Council, empowered local councils to build venues and fund artists, and produced the Festival of Britain as “a tonic to the nation”.
We need the arts to play a similar role now – transforming lives, communities and the whole country for the better. And that’s why we need them in the 10-year plan for the UK.

The far right are telling our neighbours a story of a stolen country being reclaimed by it’s ordinary people.
The story is an old one based on fear, it’s being repeated with clarity and it’s false.
But it is a powerful story.
And we have seen what happens in the States when that story gets repeated and repeated and repeated.
The stories we tell have power.
The only way to fight this story is by telling better ones.
Truer ones.
Empowering artists in each region to tell them.
Stories that come from the myths and legends of each region.
Stories that provide a connection to the people and the land under their feet.
Not just the same old ones imported each year from London.
Campaign for the Arts are working towards that goal.
It starts with putting pressure on Burnham to include the Arts in his 10 year plan for the UK.
